PUPR Department Holds FGD : Hope the Flood Problem Will Be Resolved Soon

viralnasional.com -DUMAI (DP)-- Dumai City Government held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on flood control in Dumai City which often occurs in Bukit Datuk sub-district, Ratusima sub-district, STDI sub-district, Ratusima sub-district, Rimba Sekampung, Dumai Kota, Laksamana, Pangkalan Sesai, Purnama , Sukajadi and Bumi Ayu Villages.

Present at the FGD were the Mayor of Dumai H Paisal, Head of the Riau PUPR Department Satria, Head of Bappedalitbang Budi Hasnul, as well as 7 responders from various elements including the Director of Natural Resources Technical Development of the Ministry of PUPR Muhammad Arizal, the Middle Expert SDA Manager of the Sumatra III Riau River Region Center Directorate General of Natural Resources Harlon Sofyan, Head of Water Resources Network Implementation Center for the Pemali Juana River Region, Semarang, Ministry of PUPR Lalu Ardian Bagus Nugroho, Lecturer in Civil Engineering, Diponegoro University, team leader for Pekalongan City flood control, Priyo Nugroho.

UIR Professor Sugeng Wiyono, Head of the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Pertamina University, Arif Murti, and Lecturer at Dumai University, Nuryasin Abdillah.

Mayor of Dumai H Paisal coastal areas contain many sources of income for the community which can provide opportunities to improve the welfare of residents.
However, the existence of a long coastline causes environmental problems, including abrasion, tidal waves and flooding.

This FGD is very important as a concrete step in our joint efforts to anticipate, manage and reduce the risk of disasters that occur in Dumai City.

"In dealing with the risk of disasters, we see that the community's desire not to be affected by floods is very large so that there is synergy between all parties to handle it. Community participation in handling floods is very important, of course, by not throwing rubbish into drainage and rivers," said the Deputy Mayor.
To overcome this tidal flood, the government is trying to solve the existing problem by planning to build a moving weir and houses downstream of the river about 100 meters wide.

"Through the FGD, we hope for input from experts so that we can produce future solutions in managing the ecosystem and reducing the impact of disasters," said the Deputy Chief.

He emphasized that the flood problem cannot be solved sectorally but through collaboration. "We need to develop an integrated program," he said again.

Flood control FGD is an activity that aims to synergize efforts to overcome floods and discuss topics such as flood and high tide disaster mitigation, preparation of a flood control master plan, urban flood control concepts, anticipation of the rainy season and floods, downstream flood management.***(ant)
